Standing on 20 hectares of parkland in the city, Kilkenny Castle in its present incarnation is a Victorian remodelling of a 13th century castle. In 1172, Strongbow, leader of the Norman invasion of Ireland, began the construction of a castle on this site. The Castle is now one of Ireland’s premier visitor attractions.
